VyprVPN vs ExpressVPN

Here it is -- a comprehensive comparison of VyprVPN vs ExpressVPN. These two VPN service providers are both big names in the industry and boast massive user bases all over the world. So putting them against each other and analysing how each performs compared to the other will definitely help anyone looking to decide which one to go with.

We have defined the six most important factors to grade performance against that we find to be the main points to consider when choosing any VPN provider over another.

With the gradings of both ExpressVPN and VyprVPN determined, a winner is then declared as the better VPN provider. However, depending on your priorities, you may end up better off choosing the "loser" of these two providers, so looking at how each performed in each of the six factors is important. Let's get into it!

NOTE: The percentages for each VPN across the factors are calculated against every VPN service provider we have reviewed here at So 100% means that service is one of -- if not the -- best performer in that area.

Comparison Breakdown

With the overview laid out, let's jump into each of the factors considered in more detail to give you a more well-rounded understanding of why each grade was given to each VPN provider.

As mentioned in the beginning of this comparison of ExpressVPN VS VyprVPN, you may actually want to go with VyprVPN, even if it is not the best of the two overall, since you may prioritise certain factors over others.

ExpressVPN logo

1 month = $12.95
6 months = $59.94
12 months = $99.84

Users signing up for an ExpressVPN account will be paying quite a bit more per month when compared against the VPN marketplace. So if budget is your priority then take note.

1 month = $9.99
6 months = $59.94
12 months = $80.04

VyprVPN is priced almost identically to ExpressVPN, however it falls short against the latter by not offering as cheap a discount to users that commit to an annual account.

If you're going to go for one of these VPNs and budget is your highest priority, then I would most strongly advise you to either get a 6-month ExpressVPN account (since it is the same price as the 6-month VyprVPN account - bit with a much higher quality overall service), or get the rolling monthly VyprVPN plan.
Either way, regardless of which one you go with, both offer an initial money back guarantee period for you to try out the software with the option to retrieve your money should you be unhappy with the service.

ExpressVPN vs VyprVPN : BEST PRICE?

When looking at sheer speed performance consistency across 99% of servers, ExpressVPN is very hard to match. Users can expect just a tiny level of speed loss that remains consistent regardless of server location or protocol used.

Rather than taking the general online consensus on how ExpressVPN's speed performance is, I went deeper and got the software myself. Downloading it onto my Android device and running a speed test first without the VPN connected and then with it connected:

With VPN:

Overall ExpressVPN Speed Score:

VyprVPN also deliver very high quality speeds that are consistent throughout most server locations, this helps with them personally owning each and every server as this gives them full control to optimise them as best they can. Only downside is a bit more speed loss.

The same speed test was performed with VyprVPN as with ExpressVPN, on the same smartphone I use from the same location - and you can see for yourself the speed test results below:

Without VPN:

Overall VyprVPN Speed Score:

A few words of 'performance' is necessary, since this pertains to the actual consistency of the speed of each of these VPNs as well as how often (if at all) the connections actually drops off completely.

- ExpressVPN is incredibly consistent with their server speeds, in my personal experience. Regardless of which server location you choose; you will get a solid speed. Drop-offs are basically non-existent too, which is brilliant.

- VyprVPN also deliver solid speeds, as far as consistency goes. However they do not match the actual minimising of speed dropping like ExpressVPN manage to. Drop-offs with VyprVPN are also highly irregular, which is good.

ExpressVPN provide top level security through solid encryption methods. In addition, the company itself is based out of the British Virgin Isles, which excludes them from having to abide by strict US or EU data privacy laws.

hidemyass logo

This is the area that VyprVPN unfortunately falls short. Unlike ExpressVPN, VyprVPN does fall under strict US laws, which are renowned as being very surveillance/privacy-invasion heavy.

This area is where you really don't want your VPN service provider to slack off or try to cut corners on. You want the VPN to give you as high a level of encryption and online activity/data anonymity as it possibly can.

So when faced with the choice between two VPN providers that deliver the same level of encryption, you need to look at more 'big-picture' things with each service. Like where it is physically located as a company. This is where ExpressVPN beat out VyprVPN. By being incorporated in Hong Kong, ExpressVPN are not under the same stricter online data laws that VyprVPN are, as a US company.

You can use ExpressVPN on essentially every device you would ever want to. From your smartphone to laptop to PlayStation to eReader to right on your home router -- it's all compatible.

hidemyass logo

Exactly like ExpressPVN, VyprVPN users have no worries with incompatibility issues. You can use the VyprVPN software across any and every device you'd wish to have it setup on.

You may not consider it at the time you are choosing between these two VPNs, however it is not only your laptop or smartphone that you may want to have a VPN connection setup on. The same geo-blocked online content you want to access through a VPN on your laptop; you may also want to have unblocked on your smartTV, for example. And it never hurts to have your entire home internet router privacy protected by having the VPN setup and connected straight onto the router (thus making every device connected to your home internet also connected through the VPN by default).

So it makes sense that both of these big time VPN services do their best to have their software usable on any and every device you might want to be VPN-connected.

ExpressVPN logo

ExpressVPN put a lot of effort and capital into providing their users with a very wide array of server locations all over the globe. So if unblocking nationally-restricted content across many countries is a top priority for you, then this is good news.

hidemyass logo

As mentioned earlier, VyprVPN are the only VPN provider we know of that actually privately own the servers they offer, so this makes their offering of 50+ server locations all the more impressive. However, you still get more locations with ExpressVPN, so they take this one.

Ask yourself: are you using a VPN primarily for unblocking geo-restricted online content (as opposed to protecting your online privacy)?

Then you definitely want a VPN service that offers the widest variety of server locations around the entire globe. So although VyprVPN do have servers located in all the major locations you would want to have yourself "appear to be located within" -- ExpressVPN offer a larger number, including multiple cities within many countries, which allows you more options to connect to one country, should the first server therein not work correctly for you.

Users get brilliant customer support with any and every issue or query they might have with the service. ExpressVPN have a very knowledgable team that are not only quick via email but also via onsite live chat.

hidemyass logo

Literally zero difference between ExpressVPN and VyprVPN in this area of their services. VyprVPN also provide super fast and expert support for all users via email and most importantly through live chat right on the website.

You want to take the level and speed of customer support provided to you by your VPN. Even though you shouldn't expect any issues or bugs with either of these services - it just brings a good amount of comfort and joy of service when you know that customer support is literally a few clicks away and less than 5 minutes to be chatting to, at any time of day, any day of the year.

Both of these services deliver on this requirement to the highest level, which is great. So no clear winner in this comparative area.

Additional Features

It's 2017, so it basically goes within saying these days that you should expect some extra "goodies" to come with any software you pay for.

VPNs are no exception, well, at least these two VPNs. So I will quickly list the most significant and cool features than either (or both) of these providers have taken the time to go the extra mile and integrate into their service:

ExpressVPN logo

Kill Switch

Torrenting Friendly

Stealth Mode

Favourite Server Saving

Intuitive Software

As you can see, these are just a list of (in my opinion) the most user-experience enhancing features that the VPNs offer. The only real difference is that VyprVPN do not offer the super simple add-on of allowing you to save your favourite servers (i.e. the ones you connect to most regularly) or the particular configuration of the VPN that you use most often.

ExpressVPN logo

In this comparison of VyprVPN vs ExpressVPN -- ExpressVPN is the better all round provider. To learn more about ExpressVPN just click on the button above and you'll be taken to their homepage where you can sign up for a 30-day free trial.

As you can see, although ExpressVPN shines through as the better all-round VPN service provider of the two; VyprVPN does perform just as well in the areas of compatibility and customer support, while also charging quite a bit less than ExpressVPN for their service.

So if your priorities are a modest budget and good user experience, then VyprVPN is definitely great value for money.

Tried out one of these VPNs already?

Have you already used ExpressVPN or VyprVPN? Maybe you're like me and have tried out both?

Well, if you have any experience using either of these, regardless of how much, I would love to hear what your thoughts and comments are. Whether you want to just pop a star-rating, or a few words describing your experience, or even a full blown review of your own! Definitely pop it down below in the comments section.

The more voices we have to compare these two super popular VPN providers in one place (this page) the more comprehensive this webpage can serve as an ultimate guide for anyone that is undecided between choosing either of these providers over the other.

Be sure to check out our comprehensive full reviews of both ExpressVPN and IPVanish to take a complete, detailed look at each service independently from each other:

Is there an "Ultimate VPN" to go with, out of ALL the VPNs available?

The short answer is: yes!

Through doing these in-depth comparisons of all the top VPN providers around right now, as well as conducting detailed reviews of each VPN by itself, I have gathered enough experience and knowledge to safely recommend one VPN provider above all others -- and it just so happens to be the one that is the winner in this comparison guide: ExpressVPN

So definitely check it out and consider giving it a go. It really does deliver above and beyond all other VPNs, and has done so consistently for the last 3 years at least.

Thanks for checking out this comparison. Hope it helped you decide!

I tried vyprvpn once — NEVER AGAIN!! — they cheated me and worked maybe 10% of the time. It NEVER worked on Linux. I don’t know where you got the prices, but they charged me 120$ for a year, even when they were offering a “christmas special” of 99$. I give these cheats 0% on all.

I wonder what will the creators say of this so called vyprvpn vs expressvpn match. It would be interesting if we could bring them out here but its very unlikely.

The only thing that I raise my eyebrows in this is the Speed. Do not get me wrong I am thankful that the Speed is a factor here in this expressvpn vs vyprvpn battle I really do. However, this factor is not a point for either. For one Internet speed varies per client location.

This is good and all but where can I see the standalone perspective for both Express and Vypr? Those can and should be looked at first before going here to see the bigger picture.

I do not know what is a VPN to begin with so I guess this will be my introduction to this new invention. Based on what I have seen, NOT BAD not bad at all.

I have been using VPN for a good while now. I prefer it to be FREE to be honest. However, I understand that this is business. Besides it is not that steep depending on the brand of course.

This battle between vyprvpn vs expressvpn is a lot closer compared to a certain VPN against EXPRESS. I like that because all gloves are off at this point. It can be more IN DEPTH though but, I will take it.

This head to head match of expressvpn vs vyprvpn is a good match. Aside from a 14 USD at least price difference otherwise they are identical. Speed well???Let the user decide that one.

I agree with the verdict of the author with regards of expressvpn vs vyprvpn battle. A VPN must not only be fast but must provide an overall service.

I agree with the observation of the vyprvpn vs expressvpn match being close. However, the thing is favorite server? What us that? Does server gets affected? by what exactly?

To answer that question in the title is perhaps it depends on how you use it and where? Not all places are ideal for this after all.
