How to unblock Viber in more detail:

NOTE: This guide on how to unblock Viber involves using a VPN. There are a lot of VPN providers around today, so I reviewed the best out there and narrowed down my choice to ExpressVPN as it offers me the best value for my (modest) budget. Check it out here:

Viber was incredibly popular when it first came on the scene as one of the first and most intuitive VoIP apps to allow free calls and texts online between mobile users. Although the Goliath WhatsApp has dominated this market area since then, many users prefer Viber as it offers the exact same service for no fee.

I am one such user. Viber is my go-to telecommunication app, so when I first encountered being blocked from using Viber, to say I was frustrated is an understatement!

The first time I experienced being blocked from Viber I did not let it go. I was determined to find a solution to make sure that I would be able to unblock Viber under any circumstances so that I would not be left to the mercy of external factors.

And after a bit of researching and testing, I figured out how to unblock Viber once and for all. So here is my quick guide on how you too can unblock Viber. Enjoy!

Why is Viber Blocked?

The main reason that Viber is most likely blocked for you right now is because you are in a physical area in the world that has blocked access completely to Viber because of competing services that charge a premium for the same telecommunication. How dare they!

So this means that all the Internet Service Providers (ISPs) in the location you are currently in have decided to block access to Viber. Many of these countries are around the Middle Eastern part of the world and have chosen to block access to Viber from within such nations for a variety of reasons.

What this means is that as soon as you are located within a country that has chosen to block Viber; you are essentially at the mercy of that entire country's internet, because the block is occurring at the ISP level (rather than, say, Viber or your specific device blocking access for whatever reason.)

Or are you? Well, read on to figure out if there is a way for you to unblock Viber without having to physically change your location to outside a Viber-banned country...

How is Viber Blocking Access?

To best understand why the solution I describe below works so well, it's important to know exactly how such countries are banning Viber.

As mentioned, Viber is being blocked at the ISP level in these countries. This means that the IP address you are given when you join any internet connection within a Viber-banned country, you are being denied access to Viber by your IP address -- because it's given to you through the servers used by the ISPs.

What this means is that if you can somehow change your IP address, you will be able to unblock Viber, even while within a Viber-blocked location. How? By remotely connecting to a private server that is not owned by the ISPs in your location.

And how can you remotely connect to a private server? By using a very simple piece of software called a VPN (Virtual Private Network). Using a VPN will allow you to very securely and effectively bypass the IP address given to you by the ISP you are connected to, which will in turn automatically unblock Viber for you instantly.

Thankfully there are plenty very affordable and easy-to-use VPNs that you can use to unblock Viber in literally less than 2 minutes.

Let me show you exactly how to do this right now.

How to Use a VPN to Unblock Viber

Step 1: Sign up for VPN

For the purpose of this walkthrough I will use ExpressVPN, as I chose this provider after trying out the best rated VPN service out there just now.

So go ahead and go to the ExpressVPN website then choose the plan that you want and process your account setup. You'll see that a 30 day money back guarantee is given by ExpressVPN, so you can try it for 30 days and if you don't feel satisfied with it, you can just cancel your account and get a full refund. I've done this and can confirm:

After you have set up your account, you will receive a confirmation email that will contain a link to download the VPN software. Go ahead and click on this now.

Step 2: Download & Install VPN

Now you will be ready to download the ExpressVPN software onto your mobile device. As you'll see in the download area, essentially every single device you would want to user Viber on is compatible with ExpressVPN's software:

To make the download and installation process as quick as possible, I would go to the App Store or Google Play Store on your mobile device accordingly then download the dedicated ExpressVPN app on there. It will install automatically and you will then be ready to open it up.

Step 3: Connect to Desired Server on VPN

Once you've opened up the ExpressVPN app, you will see that the only thing you have to do is select which server location you want to connect to the VPN on.

It is at this point that you want to make sure to connect to a server location that allows Viber access, so basically any location that is outside your current Viber-blocked one will suffice.

Here is an example of my Android ExpressVPN software connecting to a London-based server location that I chose:

Step 4: Setup Viber Account

Once you are connected to the VPN you will now have full and secure access to Viber! So if you have a Viber account already then just open the app up and enjoy a fully unblocked Viber.

If you have no Viber account then simply download the app to your mobile device and then sign up in just a few seconds. You will be able to do this once connected to your VPN.

If you want to change your IP address or revert to your "actual" address at any point, then all you have to do is just disconnect and/or reconnect to your VPN as often as you want.

Conclusion

This concludes my super quick and easy guide on how to unblock Viber. If you followed the quick steps detailed above then you will be happily enjoying full access to Viber.

Should you want to try out some other VPN providers before settling on the best one for you, I would recommend checking out the five providers below that I personally found to be equally effective for unblocking Viber:
