How to watch Canada Sevens 2016 online in more detail:

Ah, Rugby. The sport of kings! And my big passion! I was a keen player at school and college until a bad knee injury ended my career at the ripe old age of 22. Since then I have coached kids in a local team on a Sunday morning, and have just decided to begin qualifying as a referee.

I have also become an avid spectator following Wasps until their recent move north to Coventry which is a bit too far for me to travel every other weekend. Instead I now make do with watching lower league rugby, but have also begun developing a real interest in Rugby Sevens.

This was kicked off by meeting a group of guys on a flight back from the USA who had been in Canada watching the Canada Sevens tournament a few years back. Spurred on by them, I began to watch it a bit more and fell in love. It is much quicker and more technical than 15-a-side rugby, and really enhances all of the aspects of the sport I love the most.

The HSBC Sevens is the pinnacle of the sport with ten rounds played across the globe between all the big rugby playing nations, and plenty of the smaller ones as well. I go to the London and Paris editions without fail, but of the rest, it is still Canada that holds a special place in my heart. I try to watch every game, but finding coverage is not always easy. So to help you, let me show you how to watch the Canada Sevens 2016 online.

Sky Sports & ITV

In the UK, live coverage of the Canada Sevens tournament can be found on Sky Sports. They are a channel usually obsessed with football, but they also offer top-notch rugby coverage too, and their Sevens coverage is a real highlight.

You can see the Sky Sports coverage online through their online Sky Go service, or one of their various sports apps, which you can download onto your smartphone, tablet, or computer. To watch Sky’s coverage, you will need a subscription with them, but the Seven’s coverage generally doesn’t need one of their most expensive packages.

Sky Sports coverage will only be available to users within the UK, but worry not. If you are keen to watch some of the best Canada Sevens coverage around, all you will need is to access their site via a VPN such as ExpressVPN (<--- click there for my personal review). As long as you are connected via a UK-based server, of which ExpressVPN has several, then you should be able to access Sky Sports just as if you were in the UK. Check out our detailed guide for full information how to watch Sky Sports and use the Sky Go service overseas.

Also in the UK, ITV will have a regular highlights programme with all the best action from the Canada Sevens. This is also pretty in-depth and high quality coverage, and can be watched online for free through the ITV Player.

Again, if you are not located in the UK, you will need to use a VPN to access this service. Our brief guide explains how to do this. In addition, here are some more tried and trusted VPN providers I recommend:

NBC Sports and TSN

In the USA, exclusive coverage of the Canada Sevens tournament can be found on NBC Sports. Again this coverage is pretty comprehensive and given that rugby is not hugey popular in the USA at the moment, it is very watchable.

Of course NBC are only permitted to show this coverage within the USA, so if you want to watch their broadcasts online, you will again need to log onto via a VPN. Once more, we are here to help, with a step-by-step guide on how to do this.

Of course, as the Canada Sevens takes place in Vancouver, one of the best places to go for coverage is the Canadian Broadcasters. TSN is the network you will need to go to, and if you can navigate your way around the wall-to-wall hockey there, you will find extensive coverage of all the matches in the tournament.

Once more, a VPN be needed to access TSN outside of Canada, and they also require you to have a subscription to a Canadian TV channel to log-in, which is why this service isn’t higher up our list of recommendations.

Fox Sports Australia

Finally, I would also recommend the Australian coverage on Fox Sports Australia. There are few countries in the world more passionate about rugby than Australia and although I am not usually a big fan of the coverage offered by Fox Sports, their Australian rugby coverage is a real highlight.

Again, if you are outside Australia, you will need to use a VPN to access the service, but with a subscription costing from just AUS$4.99 a month, it is a small outlay in exchange for a fantastic return, and well worth considering.

Conclusion

So there you have it. This concludes my super quick breakdown guide on the best, most effective and affordable ways to watch the Canada Sevens online in 2016.

My main takeaway for this guide would be to definitely see if changing your online sports service provider to a cheaper one that you can sign up for through a VPN is a worthwhile option. I did this myself and am happily saving an extra $10 a month while getting full access to my sports online from wherever I am in the world.
