How to watch US Netflix in Poland in more detail:

NOTE: In this quick guide on how to watch US Netflix in Poland, I use a VPN. After checking out a whole bunch of the "best VPNs on the market", I decided on ExpressVPN for this solution. It is the best value for my personal (modest) budget. If you want to check it out, go ahead and click below:

Like everyone else in the world that watch Netflix regularly, which I imagine to be every single person with an internet connection! I was so happy to hear that Netflix had finally gone global, offering its awesome on demand media streaming service to practically every country around the world.

The timing was perfect for this global Netflix expansion, since I was about to take a trip to Krakow, Poland. So knowing that I could keep up to date with my beloved TV series on Netflix without any worries was very cool.

However, once I had landed in Poland and had settled into my accommodation, upon logging into Netflix I was shocked to see that the TV show I was dying to catch up on was not there! I couldn't see it anywhere in the library. What was going on?!

I frantically did some research and quickly discovered that Netflix in fact offers different versions of its service to users based on your location. So I was essentially being offered the "Poland version" of Netflix rather than the one I normally have, which is the "US version".

Not one to back down from this problem, I researched my butt off and figured out a solution on how to watch US Netflix in Poland in less than 5 minutes and with no technical expertise required. So I thought I would share this solution -- hence this quick guide for you. Enjoy!

Why is US Netflix not Available in Poland?

To figure out how to solve this problem, I first had to know exactly why Netflix was showing different versions of their service based on me being in Poland or the US.

I realised that this comes down to the agreements made between Netflix and the owners of each piece of media they offer on their service. Specifically distribution agreements made. For example, the owners of the TV show Brooklyn Nine Nine will have made an agreement with Netflix to let them offer the show on their service on the strict condition that they only offer it to users in agreed-upon countries.

So because the vast majority of the world's most popular TV shows and movies are owned by US-based companies, this results in Netflix having to block and allow different media based on where in the world you are accessing the service from.

This means that Poland users will not be offered a whole bunch of awesome TV shows and movies because Netflix agreed with the owners of them to not offer them to Poland-based users.

How is US Netflix Blocking Access in Poland?

The next step on my investigation was to somehow figure out exactly how Netflix is determining each user's location. If I could figure this out, then I would know what solution would work the best.

It didn't take me long before figuring out that Netflix uses a process called "geo-blocking". This process basically works by Netflix checking the IP address of every user the moment they visit the service. By checking your IP address the second you access the service, Netflix will know your location.

So logically, if you are able to somehow change your IP address from your real location (Poland) to a US based IP address (e.g. New York), then Netflix would check your IP address, believe you are located in the US, and give you full access to the US Netflix in Poland.

Once I recognised that changing my IP address was the solution, I immediately researched the best ways to do this. Quickly I determined that this was best done by using what's called a Virtual Private Network, or "VPN" for short.

After reviewing a bunch of these VPNs, I decided to go with ExpressVPN for the simple fact that this VPN service provider offered the best value for my modest budget. So for the following "set up" walk through, I will use this VPN to demonstrate the process.

How to Use a VPN to Watch US Netflix in Poland

Step 1: Sign up for VPN

This whole process is incredibly simple and quick to get through. Firstly, of course, you want to go and sign up for an account with the VPN. With your VPN account set up, you will be auto-redirected to download the software onto whichever device you plan to watch US Netflix in Poland from.

Step 2: Download & Install VPN

Like I just said, you will be presented with the download link to your device, along with a list of all the devices that your VPN is compatible with.

This large compatibility is one of the reasons I recommend using a VPN for this solution. Check out ExpressVPN's device compatibility list:

Click on the download link for your device, then go through the automatic installation process, which will take just a few seconds.

You'll then have your VPN fully installed on your device and ready to setup and use.

Step 3: Connect to US-based Server on VPN

Open up the VPN software. You will be presented with a very clean and clear interface that will only ask you to do one thing: choose a location to connect to.

As you can guess, this is the point where you want to choose a US-based location, like New York, because connecting to this server location will be what changes your IP address from your Polish one to a US one.

It's literally just a case of selecting a US location then clicking the big old "Connect" button. Here's how clear it is on the Mac ExpressVPN software:

US Netflix will be presented to you! Woohoo! Go ahead and enjoy your favourite US shows and movies that US Netflix offer from the comfort of your Polish location without worry of being disconnected or blocked.

Should you want to, for whatever reason, go back to the Poland version of Netflix, then it's simply as case of disconnecting from the VPN, which takes one click. You can connect and disconnect to your heart's content.
