How to watch USA Sevens 2016 online in more detail:

There is something about Sevens Rugby that elevates it above the normal 15-man game for me. It might be the extra speed and agility that this version of the game requires, or perhaps it’s the international element of it and the fact that the USA are involved, and sometimes even competitive. (I am still hurting from our poor showing at the Rugby World Cup in England last year.)

Although it is to all intents and purposes the same sport, Rugby Sevens is for me infinitely more entertaining and since being introduced to the sport on a plane by a group of supporters returning from an event, I have been hooked.

For my stag-do last year, I convinced a small group of friends to join me at the Hong Kong Sevens event. We spent a bit more than the average stag-do, but what a great time we had there.

For the last few years I have always made an effort to get to the USA Sevens tournament, so you can imagine my horror when I found out just before booking my flights to Vegas, that I couldn’t go this year. Work had decided to send me off to the UK for a two month assignment, and try as I might the dates couldn’t move, and there was no-one else able to take my place.

So I have resigned myself to watching all the action on the small screen this year. I will be watching online after some bad experience with hotel TV’s, and have been scouring the internet to fond the best coverage available. And this is my guide on how to watch the USA Sevens 2016 online.

NBC Sports and TSN

As I can’t be in Vegas in the flesh, my natural instinct will be to turn to NBC Sport. They cover most of the worldwide HSBC Rugby Sevens tournaments and the coverage they offer is pretty comprehensive and detailed, especially when you think that rugby is not actually all that popular in the USA.

Of course NBC Sports is a US-based broadcaster and I will be outside the country for the USA Sevens, so I won’t just be able to log in as usual to watch their online stream. Instead I will need to use a VPN such as ExpressVPN to fool the NBC Sports site into thinking I am located in the USA, and so get round their geo-blocking. This is a fairly simple process, and you can read our step-by-step guide to find out how to do it for yourself.

Sky Sports & ITV

Over in the UK, coverage of the sevens tournament will primarily be found on satellite channel Sky Sports. They are a hugely innovative sports broadcaster and through their SkyGo service, subscribers throughout the UK can watch their coverage of the USA Sevens on their computers, laptops, or smart devices wherever they are in the country. They are a pay-tv service, so you will need to have some sort of subscription with them. Some of their packages (mostly the ones with Premier League soccer on them) are pretty pricy, but others are more affordable and the Sevens coverage is usually available on those ones too.

If you are not in the UK, you will again need to use a VPN to watch the USA Sevens. But once again, as long as you are connected via a UK-based server, you should have no trouble using the SkyGo service wherever in the world you are. Signing up for a Sky Subscription is pretty easy online too provided you have an international credit card like a Visa or MasterCard, to make the payment with.

Take a look at our guides to find out exactly how to watch Sky Sports and use the Sky Go service from overseas.

Elsewhere in the UK, there will also be a pretty decent highlights program on terrestrial channel, ITV. They offer all the key moments of action along with some really strong analysis from a great selection of experts. What’s more, in the UK, and online, ITV’s highlights show is free. All you will need outside the UK, is a VPN connected to a UK-based server, and you don’t have to miss anything. TO find out how, take a look at our brief guide.

Fox Sports Australia & TSN Canada

If neither of the above options sound right for you, the best of the rest can be found in Australia and Canada.

Australia’s coverage can be found on Fox Sports Australia. All formats of rugby are hugely popular in Australia and they will offer a fantastic service with most games live, and superb analysis by experts who really know everything there is to know about the sport.

Again, their coverage will be geo-blocked, but with a subscription costing from just AUS$4.99 a month it’s well worth spending a little bit more on top to get a VPN and then accessing the service from anywhere in the world. It really is up there with the best.

Elsewhere, there is also pretty decent coverage on Canadian channel TSN. Seven’s is arguably more popular in Canada than the 15-a-side game, so they will be making a special effort with this coverage, not least because it is taking place in the USA.

Unfortunately as well as needing a VPN to watch their coverage outside of Canada, you will also need a subscription to a Canadian Cable Channel to log-on, so this is only really an option for the most committed of TSN fans.

So this concludes my quick guide on how to watch USA Sevens in 2016 online. As you can see, you have a few options to choose between, which is always a good thing.

By far my most recommended approach is to get yourself a VPN and go with the online service/channel that is the most affordable -- since by doing this you will be able to access the USA Sevens coverage online from anywhere you happen to be in the world.

To give you some more options than the VPN providers I mentioned herein, below are the three VPN providers I recommend as most effective for this situation:
