UPDATE: On January 17th, 2020 I can confirm this solution still works. The tool I use in this guide is called ExpressVPN. Feel free to comment below, or go check it out by clicking here. I use ExpressVPN because it is the only one I've found that still currently works to watch Eurosport in USA locations.
To watch Eurosport in USA, go through the following quick steps right now:
- Start by getting a VPN account
- Then install the VPN software onto the device(s) you want to watch Eurosport in USA on
- Open the VPN software and connect to a UK-based server
- Next, login to your Eurosport account or sign up for one if you don't have one
- Enjoy Eurosport in USA

How to watch Eurosport in USA
in more detail:
Being a UK native, there were certain TV channels that I grew up with and thus developed a real affinity towards it as a network I always inevitably sat down to enjoy regularly.
So when I moved out the USA earlier last year for work, I was super pleased to know that most of my favourite European TV channels offered online access to their media - Eurosport included.
Once settled into my NYC apartment and with some time to kill, I went ahead and navigated to the Eurosport online channel and got ready to catch up on the latest events thereon... only to be presented with the following message:
I couldn't believe it. My afternoon of nostalgic, homeland-connecting viewing was blocked! However, what Eurosport didn't know was that I am not the type to back down so easily. I was going to find a solution for how to watch Eurosport in USA locations if it would take me the entire day.
Luckily, it only took me a few hours of researching to determine the very best solution for this. As a result, I wanted to quickly write up this guide on how you can do it do. Enjoy!
Why is Eurosport Not Available in USA?
Before jumping straight to the solution, it's worthwhile to understand how I got to it. This means quickly running throughout the "why" and "how" Eurosport has such blocks on its service for USA users.
So, why? Well, this comes down to licensing rights. Specifically the fact that Eurosport has to purchase individual licensing rights for each video it offers on the service, per country. This means that in order to allow you to watch that video you currently cannot watch from the USA on the site; Eurosport would have to buy licensing rights to offer it in the USA (even though they will have already bought licensing rights for each of the other countries in Europe, which is a lot of investment).
You can see now that Eurosport simply don't want to spend the large amounts on USA licensing rights to offer their service therein. This results in the service having to block access from users like myself, located in the USA. This rings true for many online media streaming services around the globe too, for example ESPN in Canada and UK, as well as Sling TV in Canada being blocked for the same licensing reason.
How is Eurosport Blocking Access in USA?
Now onto the "how".
I checked out a bunch of online resources to help me figure out the actual process Eurosport use on their service that allows them to accurately deny and grant access to users instantaneously.
What I discovered was that "geo-blocking" is the process used. This geo-blocking works by checking the current IP address of every single user the moment they arrive on the service; determining the user location from said IP address; then granting/blocking access based on this instantly.
This means that if you're located in the USA, when you head to the Eurosport website to access the media therein, your current IP address will instantly tell Eurosport that you're located in the USA, and thus you will be blocked right away.
So by somehow being able to change your IP address from your real USA location to a European IP address, this would make the Eurosport service "believe" that your IP address (and thus location) is not in the USA, but instead in Europe, and you'll get instant access to whatever media on the service you want.
Thanks to many super smart and forward-thinking techie people, there are actually a few different options available that let you change your IP address to any location you want to "appear" in. However, by far the best of these options is to use a VPN (Virtual Private Network).
How to Use a VPN to Watch Eurosport USA
Step 1: Sign up for VPN
I went ahead and reviewed a bunch of the best VPN service providers available nowadays and settled on using ExpressVPN for this solution. Thus I'll use it as the example as I walk you through the quick setup steps ahead.
Head to ExpressVPN's website, select the plan that fits your needs and budget best, choose a payment option then confirm your account setup details in the email sent out to you:
Really clean and easy to navigate homepage as you can see. Should you need any help getting your account setup at any point - they have great live support on the website.
With your new account confirmed, the next step is to get the VPN software downloaded and installed onto the device(s) you plan to get Eurosport USA unblocked through.
When you confirm your account setup on the website, you will get an email immediately that contains your login details. Open that, and move onto the next step in this guide...
Step 2: Download & Install VPN
This process requires essentially zero technical expertise (or even knowledge), so have no fears. Simply head to the "download area" -- which you will be given a direct link to in the account confirmation email you received.
In this area, you'll see the various different direct software download links available to you. Basically any device you would ever consider watching Eurosport from is VPN compatible. Just check out the screen shot I took below to see how many variety of device options you have to choose from:
For me, I downloaded the VPN software onto my Macbook, so clicked on the according download link and the download began instantly.
Once this is complete, the software will automatically prompt you to then install onto your device. This is the same as with any software you install - so just go through the click-through steps for this and in a few moments you'll have the software ready to use !
Step 3: Connect to UK-based Server on VPN
With the VPN software installed on your device, all that's left for you to is open it up and get connected!
This is the all important part in the process, as the location you choose to connect to the VPN on will be the location your IP address will change to reflect. So you want to make sure to join a European location that definitely gets access to Eurosport's online service, e.g. the UK.
To show how simple this connection process is, here are some screenshots from my Macbook:
Pretty straight forward, right? Definitely zero technical expertise needed to get connected. Simply click on a server location within the UK (ExpressVPN have multiple options for you - does not matter which one you choose), click "Connect" then in a few seconds you will have successfully changed your device's IP address to appear within the UK. Awesome!
I also wanted to be able to watch Eurosport in the USA on my Android smartphone, so for that all I did was go to the Google Play Store on my mobile, searched for the ExpressVPN app, then downloaded and installed it. Easy peasy.
Below are a couple of screenshots to demonstrate the connection process I went through once I had the app opened and was logged in, ready to connect:
Really simple process, just as it is with the app on any device you want to get Eurosport in the USA on.
At this point you will have successfully made Eurosport "think" you are located within the UK. So now it is time to go to the service and get watching.
Step 4: Setup Eurosport Account and Watch
If you are using Eurosport for the first time, then you may need to sign up for the service. The last time I checked this wasn't necessary, but if so -- then simply go ahead and create an account for yourself. Do this while connected to the UK-based VPN just to be extra sure you will get through the process in full.
Otherwise, once you've connected to the European-based VPN server, you will now have full access to all the Eurosport service. Enjoy!
So there you have it -- a super quick and simply guide on how to watch Eurosport in USA locations that takes you no more than 5 minutes to get setup.
Should you want to choose a different VPN service provider than the one I used for this, go ahead and check out the top five ones I personally reviewed and found to be more than capable and fairly priced for this solution:
What about a using a SmartDNS instead of a VPN?
You can alternatively go with a SmartDNS service to effectively change your IP address to make you appear in any location you want (that the SmartDNS service offer, through their server list).
So what is the difference between the two software options, and why do I recommend going with a VPN instead?
The difference is actually quite small, but it is significant. Here is a quick overview to make it clear for you:
IP address changing
Encrypting all data
So as you can gather from the above little table - the difference is the encryption you get placed on your connection the moment you connect to a VPN.
Of course, privacy protection is not the top priority for you, since you found this guide to show you how to watch ESPN within the US. However, the reason I am so adamant to recommend using a VPN over a SmartDNS for this solution, is twofold:
1. Online privacy is important. Everyone should take control of their own in any way that they can, since having your online activity and data monitored/tracked/logged by any third party is an invasion on your privacy. Even if you have "nothing to hide" - it is the principle of your right to privacy that is being compromised.
2. I have reviewed over 100 VPN service providers and 50+ SmartDNS services, and can say with confidence that although SmartDNS providers are for the most part effective at unblocking online streaming services like Eurosport - VPN providers are clearly more hard-working at achieving this - since many more VPN services have demonstrated being more consistently successful at unblocking online media than SmartDNS services.
The only other reason to consider going with a SmartDNS provider for this fix is if you are really tight for cash. The difference in pricing between most VPNs and SmartDNS providers is a couple of dollars, maximum - but if budget is your top priority and you are ok with having your online activity unprotected - then consider a SmartDNS.
Thanks for checking out the guide and hopefully now you are watching a completely unblocked Eurosport from your USA location without any issues at all. If you have any questions or feedback at all, go ahead and let me know in the comments section below.
