How to Watch Fox Sports in UK

in more detail:

NOTE: To show how to watch Fox Sports in UK I have used ExpressVPN as my example. ExpressVPN is my pick of the current VPNs having tested many of the biggest names on the market. You can find out more here:

The Brits have never really got US sports. Football, Baseball, Basketball, even Ice Hockey. None of them have really caught on with our neighbors from across the pond. Of course that’s their choice. If they are happy to stick with soccer and ‘cricket’ (I’ve tried and I have just got no idea what’s going on!) then that’s up to them.

But there are plenty of Americans in Britain too, and it’s very unfair on them. I should know. I first went to London for work a few years back, naively assuming that I would be able to watch the Knicks and the Giants on some cable channel somewhere. Wrong! It was almost impossible to find MLB or NFL anywhere on British TV, and I had to resort to unreliable and unofficial feeds to get my fix.

So when I had to go back on another assignment, I wasn’t going to make the same mistake twice. This time I decided to do my research and make sure I could access Fox Sports, which has everything I need on there. It turns out, there is a really easy way to do this. All you need is a VPN.

Why is Fox Sports not Available in the UK?

So why couldn’t I watch Fox Sports Go, the Fox Sports online streaming service, while I was in the UK? The answer to that question is rights. Fox Sports buys a license to show the sports that it does in the USA. These licenses can cost a huge amount of money, and are the main source of revenue for a lot of the leagues.

But these leagues also sell separate licenses to overseas broadcasters, and as Fox Sports is a US channel, it only holds a license to show their sports in the USA. They are therefore obliged to stop overseas users from accessing their online services under the terms of their rights agreements.

To do this, they use something known as geo-blocking to restrict access to only those users located in the USA. Many big name online streaming services use this same process to restrict their service from users located within the UK. To name just a few:

How is Fox Sports Blocking Access in the UK?

So how does geo-blocking work? Well it is a relatively simple technology which reads your IP Address when you visit the Fox Sports site.

An IP Address is a set of data which every internet user transmits whenever they visit a website or log into an online service. It contains a variety of different pieces of information, but the key one for geo-blocking software is your geographic location.

By looking at your IP Address, Fox Sports can see where in the world you are, and if you are located in the UK, or indeed anywhere else in the world, you will not be allowed to use their Fox Sports Go service.

The only way to get around this is by changing your IP Address to one which indicates that you are in the USA. And the best way to do this is by using a VPN.

At this point it serves you well to quickly understand what a VPN is and how it works to effectively get Fox Sports UK unblocked on any device you want. So let's do this now:

What is a VPN and how does it solve this problem?

A Virtual Private Network, or VPN for short, is a clever little piece of software that allows you to have full control over the IP address your device displays to any/all websites and online services you want to access.

The best thing about a VPN is this "choice" you get on which IP address you want. You see, when you open a high quality VPN like the one we mention below in the next step, you are literally presented with a list of locations plotted all over the world. All you need to do is click on one then connect.

Your device will then be connected to the internet through this VPN server location you choose -- this is the moment your IP address changes to that location. So from that moment, any website or online service you visit (like, for example, Fox Sports) will view your location based on that IP address.

Additionally, a VPN is extra-awesome because the servers you join on a VPN also place a super strong encryption level onto your connection. This means that all of your online data (like your online banking passwords) and online activity are privacy-protected to a sophisticated level. Pretty awesome.

So, with that said, carry on reading, and I will explain exactly how to get a VPN setup on your device in less than 2 minutes with zero technical expertise required.

How to Use a VPN to Watch Fox Sports in UK

Step 1: Sign up for VPN

Using a VPN to watch Fox Sports in the UK is actually relatively easy. First you need to visit the website of your chosen VPN. I always use ExpressVPN which I find the best for online streaming, and you can find links to their site on this page.

Once there, you can choose from a variety of different subscription packages. Make your pick and you will be forwarded to a payments page, where you can make payment using a variety of internationally recognized payment options.

If you are unsure, ExpressVPN offer a 30-day money-back guarantee so if you are not completely satisfied, you will get every cent back.

access us netflix 1

Once you have completed payment, you will be invited to download and install the ExpressVPN software.

Step 2: Download & Install VPN

Downloading and Installing the software is also really easy to do. All you have to do is select the correct operating system and device from the menu you can see below.

You will then be walked through the process of downloading and starting the installation step. This whole step shouldn’t take more than a couple of minutes.

What is great about ExpressVPN is that they have worked really hard to make their software compatible and thus super easy-to-use on essentially every device you would every consider wanting Fox Sports GO UK unblocked on. Just check out the small sample list of available devices they have support for:

Step 3: Connect to US-based Server on VPN

Once you have finished installing the software, open it up and you will be shown ExpressVPN's excellent and very user friendly interface. The only thing left for you to do is choose which of their servers you want to connect to.

This is the golden moment that will actually change your devices IP address to shown your location as being in whichever server location you choose from the list you have.

Thus, to watch Fox Sports in the UK, you will need to select one of the US-based options. Thankfully, ExpressVPN has multiple US city server locations that you can try out. It does not matter which one you choose - they will all perform the same task: making Fox Sports believe you are located within the US.

I'm so obsessed with Fox Sports that I also wanted to have the service UK unblocked on my Android device. So I went over the app store and grabbed the app there, then connected. I took a couple of screen grabs to show how the connection process appears, to give you an idea:

unblock whatsapp expressvpn app 6

Obviously in the above example I am connecting to a UK-based server (London), so make sure you connect to a New York or similar US-based server location when you jump onto the VPN.

The moment you are connected to the VPN, you will have Fox Sports UK accessible on your device! So all that is left now is to go over to the service and get it setup.

Step 4: Setup Fox Sports Account

You are ready to go. All you have to do is visit the Fox Sports website and log on in the usual way.

If you don’t already have a Fox Sports account, it is also relatively easy to sign up for one. You will need a US Cable subscription to do this, but even if you don’t have a US friend who can help you with this, there are a number of web services that can help you get one (have a quick search on Google). Once that is set up, you can simply sign up for an account as usual.

Conclusion

And that’s all you need to get your fix of US sports on Fox Sports in the UK. My British colleagues were also very impressed at the amount of British and European soccer I could watch on there too. It was a great solution for me, and I know it is for countless other UK-based Americans as well.

Do let me know about your experiences and any comments you have using the box below.

And if you are not keen to use ExpressVPN for whatever reason, there are of course numerous other VPN providers you can use instead. See above my pick of the top 5 VPNs for watching Fox Sports in the UK. Enjoy sports fans.

> COMMON QUESTIONS:

Can I use a SmartDNS to get Fox Sports UK unblocked?

A SmartDNS, if you don't know, is a service that works the same way a VPN does with regards to connecting you to the internet through a remote server - so they change your IP address to make Fox Sports GO UK accessible to you in this way.

So yes, a SmartDNS service will give you access to Fox Sports in the UK.

The difference between this approach and using a VPN is two-fold:

1. A VPN places encryption on your connection the moment you connect to it, which protects the privacy of your online data and activity. A SmartDNS does not do this, so your privacy is not protected.

2. A SmartDNS service usually costs a little less than a VPN service because of this difference in privacy protection.

Can I change my IP address back to its normal "real" one with a VPN?

Yes, you can. The moment you disconnect from the VPN, your IP address will return to its original, true numerical value. You can connect/disconnect from the VPN as often as you want.

Will a VPN works forever to get Fox Sports GO UK unblocked?

Most likely, yes. However nothing is "forever" certain, especially when it comes to the internet. What I can confirm is that for the last 2 years, ExpressVPN as well as the other 3 VPN service providers I recommend in this guide have successfully unblocked Fox Sports in the UK.

I also regularly check the effectiveness of ExpressVPN in doing this every 2 weeks, so you can trust that it is still currently working 100% to do this.

Any questions or comments - let me know below.

Thanks!

I am doing the steps in the guide and there are more than one US location to choose. Does it matter? I don’t want to connect to the wrong one!

How do you avoid the location services required when you use the Fox Sports Go app on an iPad? I’ve used Express VPN for a few years but can’t get around the location detection of the iPad or computer.

Licensing or not in my humble opinion sports channels such as fox sports UK should not do this. I mean most countries third world ones does not even give a damn about this. However, the point is by not blocking perhaps a potential market could come from there. I hope I am making sense here.

With FOX being blocked it is not surprising to see fox sports go UK blocked as well, Sorry to say this but to me online stuff being blocked is tolerable compared to the TV broadcast. For one TV is widely used as suppose to a computer.

I really wanna watch fox sports in UK real talk but with this blocking in place it kills my interest. Thankfully, a software can solve it but the fact that I need third party to watch something is sad,

Looks like VPN is here to stay. In fact, from an exclusive antivir add on it has now branch out to other programs. You could say it came in like an EXPRESS DELIVERY lol. Express VPN that is.

I have FOX sports 1 and 2 in my TV now. Honestly, I pay little to no attention to it while other areas are not getting it at all. Well luck of the draw I guess.

Fortunately geo blocking is not present in my town at least it has not reach it yet. I have nothing against it but companies need to let up? Or is this an independent system where they have no control over? Sort of an A.I.

Having 2 FOX channels is a testament on how juggernaut this company is. I cannot help but sigh when I see that a system is being unfair. Ask yourself this, will all these blocked areas make a budge on their profits? I do not think so.

At least not all fox channels are blocked. Personally, I prefer the movies over sports anytime so this so called blocking does mot concern me.

So by a simple IP magic access to fox sports UK will be possible huh? Well, since sports is big nowadays hence these restrictions, I feel that this system is doing a great service to consumers.

Thank god the US are not included in all of these block zones. With that said, it is unfortunate that people here cannot even launch fox sports go UK on their devices, a bad move if you ask me.

In my opinion there comes a time that we should not listen to money. I think networks can now loosen up a bit I mean sure it cost millions to get these permissions but they more than made double or even tipple already. With that said can we just watch fox sports in UK cheaper if not free?

At this rate having a VPN should be mandatory with all its perks considered. The question is will big companies allow it? There are already lot of competitors after all.

What happens if you get a subscription as in paid from the service and all? Will that enable you to watch fox sports in UK or is it still blocked? If yes then I see why I should go with something like this.

Funny thing is despite fox sports UK being blocked I do not believe that Fox in general will make a move to lift it despite of heavily loosing the UK viewership. The real question is does geo blocking come as automatic or has company consent?

Online platforms are big nowadays. Sites like fox sports go UK are popping like crazy. That is to be expected though because the digital age is here.

Regardless of the outcome it is undeniable how VPN is changing the landscape of media in general. Sports channels, movies name it.

I am aware that that everything nowadays is a business particularly entertainment. I guess what I am saying is yes I am unaffected by this chaos. However, as someone who looks from the outside I wish that companies will loosen up. For one without viewers they would not be here.

If I may ask what does the law says about blocking let alone using a third party software? I imagine yes these actions are legit but they are walking on thin ice here. In my area consumers have rights to access these since it is information.

If they have time to block something like this why not use this geo blocking to block bad sites? Porn for example. I always encounter porn pop ups each time I browse the web. I think geo blocking should focus on that not this patent thingy.

7 usd for 15 months not bad? In my opinion though it should be more. Either way this is a great deal for Express. I may even get one.
