Comparison Breakdown

So while there is not a lot to choose between two of the VPN world’s heavyweights, out expert conclusion is that it is NordVPN which shades a comparison between the two.

I understand that this quick overview may not satisfy those of you that want to know exactly where and why NordVPN beats out IPVanish in detail, so I went ahead and did exactly this.

Let’s take a closer look at the six factors we have compared above and see just where it is that NordVPN comes out on top.

1 month = $8
6 months = $30
12 months = $48

For the level of service they offer, NordVPN have one of the most competitively priced set of packages out there.

1 month = $10
3 months = $53.98
12 months = $77.99

IPVanish sit in the mid-high range price bracket, and while NordVPN is cheaper, they are certainly not the most expensive on the market.

So if budget is one of, if not the biggest consideration you are taking between choosing one of these VPNs, then NordVPN is the one you want to go with. A couple of dollars difference each month may not seem like a lot, but it does add up if you plan to use the VPN for years to come.

NordVPN vs IPVanish : BEST PRICE?

NordVPNs speeds are consistent no matter where the server you connect to, but they are not always as fast as some of their rivals.

To give a proper idea of what kind of speed reductions you can expect with NordVPN, I ran a simple ping test (that tests the speed of your internet connection) first without the VPN and then when connected to it:

Overall NordVPN Speed Score:

IPVanish are also consistent with their speeds, but in our view there are slightly fewer drops and on the whole a slightly faster connection than NordVPN.

As with NordVPN, I setup IPVanish on my Android smartphone and ran the exact same speed test without being connected to the VPN and then after connecting:

NordVPN encryption is as good as it gets. 256-bit protocols and zero-logging are given to all users, which guarantees as good as protection as you will find anywhere.

IPVanish encryption is also good, but they are let down by their US location. This means they have to adhere to US laws and must hand over user data if requested.

This factor is arguably the most important for users looking to start using a VPN. With the encryption that is placed on your online data and activity when you connect to one, the actual technical methods utilised to achieve this by the VPN you use are important to understand. As you can see from this factor comparison above, if your VPN provider is based out of the United States, then you should be aware that they are legally required to hand over any data they may have to the US authorities if asked.

NordVPN will work with any smartphone, laptop, desktop, router, games console and smartTV you might care to use it on. They offer a great range of setup guides too.

IPVanish is also available on a wide range of devices and setup is just as straightforward. Nothing to choose between the two here.

Most VPN service providers in today's competitive marketplace will offer basically universal device compatibility. So it is unsurprising that both NordVPN and IPVanish deliver on this evenly.

If you wish to use the VPN on a very specific and uncommon internet-connectable device, then you can be rest-assured that both of these VPN providers will allow compatibility with it. They can do this by allowing you to place their software onto your actual home internet router, thus making any device connected to it instantly VPN enabled.

If you need to use your VPN to unblock geo-restricted content, the number of different countries you can go through matters. NordVPN has a respectable amount, but it doesn't compete with many of its rivals.

IPVanish doesn't have as many server locations as some others, but it comfortably surpasses NordVPN here. Sheer number's wise, you get more countries and cities therein to choose from.

When considering server locations with your VPN choice, you want to make sure of a couple things:

1. To insure a fast connection, make sure the VPN has server locations within or close to your actual physical location. This is for privacy protection, rather than unblocking online media/websites.

2. To insure that the VPN offers server locations in countries where websites and online services are unblocked within.

Customer Service matters to NordVPN and it shows. You can get really quick and expert support with this service through email and ticketing, and most helpfully in our view, through live chat too.

ipvanish logo big

IPVanish have a great FAQ section and reply to emails quickly, but the live chat offering swings this one in favour of NordVPN.

Although both of these VPNs are fantastic with the level of service they provide consistently -- there are always going to inevitably be some questions you may want to ask them during your time using the software. So if you are the type of person that absolutely needs instant support, then clearly you want to go with NordVPN over IPVanish.

Both provide top quality support when you're interacting with them, however NordVPN do take the biscuit on this factor with how fast their response time is at any time of the day.

Additional Features

NordVPN and IPVanish both offer features that serve to both enhance your privacy protection level and your general user experience with the software.

So with that said, NordVPN and IPVanish are no exception. Let's take a look at what feature add ons each of these service providers deliver:

- Kill switch option is integrated to both providers. This is a smart little tool that most VPN software includes nowadays. By enabling it, if your VPN connections happens to drop (happens rarely) then your entire internet connection will drop immediately. This serves to make sure that your privacy is not compromised.

- Both providers give the option for 'stealth mode', which is essentially an extra layer of privacy protection that allows you to slip past websites and/or online services that may have "VPN blocks" in place.

- NordVPN offer a very unique feature called 'VPN over TOR'. This essentially reversed the process of routing TOR through your VPN. So you actually rout your VPN connection through TOR.

- NordVPN also work with some super smart server providers that allow them to offer users something called "High Speed Video", which is where you can connect to one of a few select high-bandwidth servers that serve you the most seamless, easy-to-load video streaming online when connected to the VPN.

Between NordVPN VS IPVanish -- NordVPN is overall the better performing VPN provider of the two. To check out NordVPN and give it a try for free, click the above button to head over to their website. Should you want to try both of these VPN providers out yourself, then keep in mind that both offer an initial money back guarantee period, so you can try them both for free before committing to either.

So the comparison has been drawn and the results are pretty conclusive. Both have their advantages, but is a straight fight it is NordVPN which emerges on top.

They offer more affordable pricing plans, better security, and superior customer service. IPVanish shades it on speed and both offer excellent device compatibility, but for the best value offering, and the most secure service, there is a clear winner here, and it’s NordVPN.

 My Top VPN Recommendation

With the in-depth reviews I have conducted, and regularly update, on all the most popular VPN providers around right now -- plus these detailed comparisons between them all -- I like to believe I have a pretty solid idea on which VPN shines the brightest among the 100+ services that are currently available.

So to that end, I have found time and time again that across all the most important performance indicators to consider when choosing a VPN, regardless of your specific reasons to use one, is to go with ExpressVPN.

Why? Simply because it has been the only VPN in my experience that has consistently unblocked the main online media streaming services that I enjoy using regularly as I work from around the globe. Such services as Netflix, Hulu, HBO GO, among many others - all successfully accessible through ExpressVPN, regardless of what your location is.

Additionally, my internet speed has never wavered significantly with this VPN, so for example any media I'm watching online does not suffer buffering or long loading times.

Lastly, the encryption levels used are as high as any VPN available, so your privacy is protected to as high a level as you would want from such software.

This must have taken forever. I mean it is hard to use VPN’s and writing it one by one. Chris must have given time to use them all.

Nord may have won this edition of ipvanish vs nordvpn match up but to me the real judges are the users of both brands. I wonder how this test was conducted?

This is really hard to pinpoint who outplays who. In this ipvanish vs nordvpn discussion I am surprise how nobody says the downsides of both products aside from the basic. However, How should I know if I never used either of them.

I agree with the previous comment that suggest that this is a hard one to decide. Nordvpn vs ipvanish. I guess my take will be this it depends on the goal that a user aims for. However, if it is just for protection then no need to complicate things.

I am not familiar with VPN but this ipvanish vs nordvpn comparison is intriguing indeed. One point that I do not agree though is the factor of speed and server locations. As in my case I guess I can live without the frills.

This is both hard but interesting takes on prospects. However it needs to be answered. For me this so called nordvpn vs ipvanish topic in terms of overall Nord is king but one cannot really tell for sure because reading and using it can be so vastly different.
